BOARD MEETING DATE: March 5, 2010
AGENDA NO. 11

PROPOSAL:

Approve Purchase of a Second Industrial Water Heat Exchanger for AQMD Diamond Bar Headquarters

SYNOPSIS:

Due to a typographical error, the FY 2009-10 Budget included authorization for the replacement of only one building hot water heat exchanger, although funding was approved sufficient for the purchase of two. This action is to request approval to purchase a second heat exchanger, within the $40,000 amount approved in the current budget.

COMMITTEE:

Administrative, February 12, 2010, Recommended for Approval

RECOMMENDED ACTION:

Authorize the Procurement Manager to purchase two replacement hot water heat exchangers for AQMD Diamond Bar Headquarters in an amount not to exceed the $40,000 approved in the FY 2009-10 Budget.

Barry R. Wallerstein, D.Env.
Executive Officer

Background

Existing hot water heat exchangers at the headquarters offices are at the end of their useful life and are starting to leak. During the budget development process, only one of the requested heat exchangers was identified in the approved Capital Outlays budget, though sufficient funding was included to purchase both units. To assure adequate provision of hot water for the building, purchase of two replacement heat exchangers is needed.

Resource Impacts

There is no resource impact as the cost of two heat exchangers, in the amount of $40,000, has been approved in the FY 2009-10 Budget.
