SYNOPSIS:

The Board recently approved a charter and membership for the Environmental Justice Advisory Group (EJAG). All other provisions for EJAG remain unchanged.

COMMITTEE:

Amend the EJAG Charter to increase membership from twenty (20) to thirty (30) individuals.

Barry R. Wallerstein, D.Env.
Executive Officer

Background

On September 5, 2009 the Governing Board approved the charter for the newly constituted Environmental Justice Advisory Group (EJAG) which reports to the Administrative Committee.

At the February 13, 2009 Administrative Committee meeting the Committee approved all nominations submitted and forwarded the list to the Chairman for final review and appointments. However, not all Board Members have had the opportunity to submit their nominations for EJAG, for consideration by the Administrative Committee and the Chairman. Furthermore, a newly appointed Board Member has requested an opportunity to nominate suitable candidates from the jurisdiction served by her.

Proposal

For the reasons discussed above, staff recommends that the EJAG charter be revised to increase membership to 30 individuals, of suitable qualification, as stated in the attachment.

Recommendation

Staff recommends that the Board approve the attached revised EJAG charter and direct staff to seek additional nominations from Governing Board members, for consideration by the Administrative Committee, and approval by the Chairman.

Attachment

Revised EJAG Charter (DOC, ~40k)
