Legislative Committee

SYNOPSIS:

The Legislative Committee held its regular meeting on Friday, November 13, 2009 and conducted interviews for legislative representation in Washington, D.C. The next Legislative Committee meeting is scheduled for Friday, December 11, 2009 at 8:00 a.m. in Conference Room CC8.

Attendance [Attachment 1]

The Legislative Committee met on November 13, 2009. Committee member Jane Carney (Chair) was present. Committee members Michael Antonovich, Michael A. Cacciotti, Jan Perry, and Tonia Reyes Uranga were present via videoconference, and Marion Ashley was present via telephone conference. Dr. William A. Burke was also present via videoconference.

Committee member Jan Perry departed the meeting at 8:25 a.m. Subsequently, Chair Carney appointed Dr. Burke to the Committee.

Interviews for Legislative Representation in Washington, D.C.

The Committee members interviewed two firms: B & D Consulting, and Kadesh & Associates.

After the interviews and discussion, the Legislative Committee voted and recommended that the Governing Board award a contract for legislative representation in Washington D.C. to Kadesh & Associates. The Committee additionally recommended that the Executive Officer contract with B & D Consulting for a specific project as appropriate. Finally, the Committee also recommended that the Executive Officer work with Kadesh & Associates to increase minority participation in AQMD’s Washington, D.C. representation.

Update on the Waxman/Markey and Boxer/Kerry Climate Change Bills [Attachment 2]

Due to lack of time, the update was tabled to the next Legislative Committee meeting to be held on December 11, 2009.
